In Memoriam. - Mrs. Georgiana Ives Comstock, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEFGHAAHIJH AKHALAMHHHHNHHAA AAADAOPAQAAI RAASAT AAU

Died at Hartford April th agedA
-
-
I saw a brilliant bridalB
All that cheersC
And charms the leaping heart of youth was thereD
And she the central object of the groupE
The cherished song bird of her father's houseF
Array'd in beauty was the loved of allG
Would I could tell you what a world of flowersH
Were concentrated there how they o'erflow'dA
In wreaths and clusters how they climb'd and sweptA
From vase to ceiling with their gay festoonsH
Whispering each other in their mystic loreI
Of fragrance and consulting how to swellJ
As best they might the tide of happinessH
-
A few brief moons departed and I soughtA
The same abode There was a gather'd throngK
Beyond the threshold stone A few white flowersH
Crept o'er a bosom and a gentle handA
That clasp'd them not A holy hymn awokeL
In plaintive melody but she who breath'dA
The very soul of music from her birthM
Lay there with close seal'd lipsH
And the same voiceH
That in the flushing of the autumnal roseH
Gladly pronounced the irrevocable wordsH
What God hath join'd together let no manN
Asunder put now in the chasten'd tonesH
Of deep humility and tendernessH
Strove from the armory of Heaven to girdA
The hearts that freshly bledA
-
At close of dayA
In the lone sadden'd hour of musing thoughtA
I seem'd to view a scene where side by sideA
Bridals and burials gleam'd the smile and tearD
Anguish and joy peace in her heavenly vestA
And brazen throated war and heard a cryO
Such is man's life belowP
I would have weptA
Save that a symphony of harps unseenQ
Broke from a hovering cloud Lo we are theyA
Who from earth's tribulation rose and foundA
Our robes made white Henceforth we grieve no moreI
-
List List She mingleth in that raptur'd strainR
Who said so sweetly to her spirit's guideA
That the dear Lord whom she had early serv'dA
Stood near in her extremity and gaveS
Her soul full willingness to leave a worldA
All bright with beauty and requited loveT
-
And so Death lost his victory tho' he snatchedA
The unwither'd garland out of Hymen's handA
And wound it in cold mockery round the tombU
