- | |
Not with the common forms of funeral grief | B |
We mourn for her who in the tomb this day | C |
Taketh her narrow couch For we have need | D |
Of such example as she set us here | E |
The sphere of christian duty beautified | D |
By gifts of intellect and taste refined | D |
A precious picture set in frame of gold | D |
And hung on high | F |
- | |
Hers was a life that bore | G |
The test of scrutiny and they who saw | H |
Its inner ministration day by day | D |
Bore fullest witness to its symmetry | A |
Its delicate tissues and unwavering crown | I |
Of piety A heritage of fame | J |
And the rich culture of her early years | K |
Wrought no contempt for woman's household care | L |
But gave it dignity Order was hers | M |
And system and an industry that weighed | D |
The priceless value of each fleeting hour | N |
Hers was a charm of manner felt by all | O |
A reference for authorities that marked | D |
The olden time and that true courtesy | A |
Which made the aged happy | A |
- | |
Scarce it seemed | D |
That she was of their number or the links | P |
Of threescore years and ten indeed had wound | D |
Their coil around her with such warmth the heart | D |
And cloudless mind retained their energies | Q |
Beauty and grace were with her to the last | D |
And fascination that withheld the guest | D |
Beyond the allotted time | R |
More would we say | D |
But her affections 'tis not ours to touch | S |
In lays so weak He of their worth might tell | T |
Whose dearest hopes so long with hers entwined | D |
And they who shared the intense maternal love | U |
That knew no pause of effort no decay | D |
No weariness but glazed the dying eye | F |
With heaven born lustre | N |
- | |
So we bid farewell | T |
Friend and Exemplar we who tread so close | V |
In thine unechoing footsteps | W |
- | |
Be thy faith | X |
As strong for us when we the bridge shall pass | Y |
To the grand portal of Eternity | A |
