- | |
The knot of crape upon yon stately door | B |
And sadness brooding o'er the sun bright halls | C |
What do they signify | D |
Death hath been there | E |
Where truth and goodness hand in hand with love | F |
Walk'd for so many years | G |
Death hath been there | E |
To do mid flowing tears his mighty work | H |
Extinguishing the tyranny of pain | I |
And taking the immortal essence home | J |
Where it would be | K |
Yet is there left behind | L |
A transcript that we cherish and a chasm | M |
We have no power to fill Almost it seems | N |
That we beheld him still with quiet step | O |
Moving among us saintly and serene | P |
Clear sighted upright held in high regard | Q |
Yet meekly unambitious seeking nought | Q |
Of windy honor from the mouth of men | R |
But with the Gospel's perfect code content | Q |
Breathing good will to all | S |
Freely his wealth | T |
Wrought blessed channels mid the sons of need | Q |
Lending Philanthropy and Piety | Q |
A stronger impulse in their mission course | U |
To ameliorate and save | V |
- | |
So thus intent | Q |
On higher deeds and aims than earth supplies | W |
An adept in that true philosophy | Q |
Learnt only in Christ's school he calmly went | Q |
Unto his Master and the Class above | F |
