How beautiful in deathB
The young and lovely sleeper liesC
Sweet calmness on the close sealed eyesC
Flowers o'er the snowy neck and browD
Where lustrous curls profusely flowE
If 'twere not for the icy chillF
That from her marble hand doth thrillF
And for her lip that gives no soundG
And for the weeping all aroundG
How beautiful were deathB
-
How beautiful in lifeH
Her pure affections heavenward movingI
Her guileless heart so full of lovingI
Her joyous smile her form of graceJ
Her clear mind lighting up the faceJ
And making home a blessed placeJ
Still breathing thro' the parents' heartK
A gladness words could ne'er impartK
A faith that foil'd affliction's dartK
How beautiful her lifeH
-
Gone to the Better LandL
Before the world's cold mist could shadeM
The brightness on her spirit laidM
Before the autumnal breeze might frayN
One leaflet from her wreath awayN
Or crisp one tendril of the vineO
That hope and happiness did twineO
Gone in the soul's unfaded bloomP
That dreads no darkness of the tombP
Gone to the Better LandL
