Rhyme Scheme: A B CDEDFGHI JKLKMNON PQRQSTCT SUVUCBWBDied at New York November th | A |

WRITTEN ON HER BIRTH DAY | B |
- | |
- | |
The day returns beloved friend | C |
When in thy Mother's arms | D |
Thou a fair gift from Heaven wert laid | E |
In all thine infant charms | D |
That day with cloudless sky returns | F |
But yet thou art not here | G |
And from the smitten Mother's eye | H |
Distils the mourner's tear | I |
- | |
The wondrous brightness of thy smile | J |
Thy tones of greeting kind | K |
The love of knowledge that inspired | L |
Thy strong and ardent mind | K |
Thy pity for the suffering poor | M |
Thy patient zeal to teach | N |
Their children though in manners rude | O |
And ignorant in speech | N |
- | |
And all thy many deeds and words | P |
Of friendship's earnest part | Q |
Are with a never fading trace | R |
Depictured on my heart | Q |
But thou art with that Saviour dear | S |
Who was thine early choice | T |
And mid thy blooming youth didst bend | C |
A listener to His voice | T |
- | |
So thy firm faith without a fear | S |
Launch'd forth on Jordan's wave | U |
The victor palm branch in thy hand | V |
That o'er stern Death He gave | U |
And may we meet beloved friend | C |
At God's appointed day | B |
Where every care and pain of earth | W |
Have fled like dreams away | B |
