Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEFGHIJKLMNAOCPQRS TUUVWDied at Mansfield Connecticut February | A |

- | |
The world seems drearier when the good depart | B |
The just the truthful such as never made | C |
Self their chief aim nor strove with glozing words | D |
To counterfeit a love they never felt | E |
But steadfast and serene to Friendship gave | F |
Its sacred scope and ne'er from Duty shrank | G |
Though sternest toil and care environ it | H |
These loving others better than themselves | I |
Fulfill the gospel rule and taste a bliss | J |
While here below unknown to selfish souls | K |
And when they die must find the clime where dwells | L |
A God of truth as tend the kindred streams | M |
To their absorbing ocean | N |
Such was she | A |
Who left us yesterday Her speaking smile | O |
Her earnest footstep hastening to give aid | C |
Or sympathy her ready hand well skill'd | P |
In all that appertains to Woman's sphere | Q |
Her large heart pouring life o'er every deed | R |
And her warm interchange of social joy | S |
Stay with us as a picture | T |
There we oft | U |
Musing shall contemplate each lineament | U |
With mournful tenderness through gushing tears | V |
That tell our loss and her unmeasured gain | W |
