In Memoriam. - Miss Alice Beckwith, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDDC EFGGF HDIAD JDKKD LMNNM

Died at Hartford September dA
-
-
The beautiful hath fledB
To join the spirit trainC
Earth interposed with strong arrayD
Love stretch'd his arms to bar her wayD
All all in vainC
-
There was a bridal hopeE
Before her crown'd with flowersF
The orange blossoms took the hueG
With which the cypress dank with dewG
Darkeneth our bowersF
-
Affections strong and warmH
Sprang round her gentle wayD
Young Childhood with a moisten'd eyeI
And Friendship's tenderest sympathyA
Watch'd her decayD
-
Disease around her couchJ
Long held a tyrant swayD
Till vanished from her cheek the roseK
And the fair flesh like vernal snowsK
Wasted awayD
-
Yet the dark Angel's touchL
Dissolv'd that dire controlM
And where the love knot cannot breakN
Nor pain nor grief intrusion makeN
Bore the sweet soulM
