There was a cradling lent us here | B |
To cheer our lot | C |
It was a cherub in disguise | D |
But yet our dim and earth bow'd eyes | D |
Perceiv'd it not | C |
- | |
Its voice was like the symphony | E |
That lute strings lend | F |
Yet tho' our hearts the music hail'd | G |
As a sweet breath of heaven they fail'd | G |
To comprehend | F |
- | |
It linger'd till each season fill'd | H |
Their perfect round | I |
The vernal bud the summer rose | J |
Autumnal gold and wintry snows | J |
Whitening the ground | I |
- | |
But when again reviving Spring | K |
Thro' flowers would roam | L |
And the white cherry blossoms stirr'd | M |
Neath the soft wing of chirping bird | M |
A call from angel harps was heard | M |
Cherub come home | L |
