In Memoriam. - Henry Howard Comstock, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBBC CDEED FGHHG IJKKJ

Youngest child of the late Capt JOHN C COMSTOCK died at Hartford February th a fortnight after his father aged monthsA
-
-
It was a fair and mournful sightB
Once at the wintry tideC
When to the dear baptismal riteB
Was brought an infant sweet and brightB
His father's couch besideC
-
His dying father's couch besideC
Whose eye with tranquil rayD
Beheld upon that beauteous headE
The consecrated water shedE
Then calmly pass'd awayD
-
A little while the lovely babeF
As if by angels lentG
With soft caress and soothing wileH
Invok'd a widow'd mother's smileH
Then to his father wentG
-
Christ's holy seal upon his browI
Christ's sign upon his breastJ
He 'scaped from all the cares and woesK
That earth inflicts or manhood knowsK
And enter'd with the blestJ
