Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACC DEEDDCC FGGFFHH IJKIILLI smile o'er the wrinkled blue | A |
Lo the sea is fair | B |
Smooth as the flow of a maiden's hair | B |
And the welkin's light shines through | A |
Into mid sea caverns of beryl hue | A |
And the little waves laugh and the mermaids sing | C |
And the sea is a beautiful sinuous thing | C |
- | |
I scowl in sullen guise | D |
The sea grows dark and dun | E |
The swift clouds hide the sun | E |
But not the bale light in my eyes | D |
And the frightened wind as it flies | D |
Ruffles the billows with stormy wing | C |
And the sea is a terrible treacherous thing | C |
- | |
When moonlight glimmers dim | F |
I pass in the path of the mist | G |
Like a pale spirit by spirits kissed | G |
At dawn I chant my own weird hymn | F |
And I dabble my hair in the sunset's rim | F |
And I call to the dwellers along the shore | H |
With a voice of gramarye evermore | H |
- | |
And if one for love of me | I |
Gives to my call an ear | J |
I will woo him and hold him dear | K |
And teach him the way of the sea | I |
And my glamor shall ever over him be | I |
Though he wander afar in the cities of men | L |
He will come at last to my arms again | L |
