Soft is the sky in the mist kirtled eastB
Light is abroad on the seaC
All of the heaven with silver is fleecedB
Holding the sunrise in feeC
Lo with a flash and uplifting of wingsD
Down where the long ripples breakE
Cometh a bevy of glad hearted thingsD
'Tis morn for the gulls are awakeE

IIA
-
Slumberous calm on the ocean and shoreF
Comes with the turn of the tideG
Never a strong sweeping pinion may soarF
Where the tame fishing boats rideG
Far and beyond in blue deserts of seaC
Where the wild winds are at playH
There may the spirits of sea birds be freeC
'Tis noon for the gulls are awayH

IIIA
-
Over the rim of the sunset is blownI
Sea dusk of purple and goldJ
Speed now the wanderers back to their ownI
Wings the most tireless must foldJ
Homeward together at twilight they flockK
Sated with joys of the deepL
Drowsily huddled on headland and rockK
'Tis night for the gulls are asleepL
