The Christmas Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABBCC DDDEFGG HHHGGII JJJKKCC

Wrapped was the world in slumber deepA
By seaward valley and cedarn steepA
And bright and blest were the dreams of its sleepA
All the hours of that wonderful night tide throughB
The stars outblossomed in fields of blueB
A heavenly chaplet to diademC
The King in the manger of BethlehemC
-
Out on the hills the shepherds layD
Wakeful that never a lamb might strayD
Humble and clean of heart were theyD
Thus it was given them to hearE
Marvellous harpings strange and clearF
Thus it was given them to seeG
The heralds of the nativityG
-
In the dim lit stable the mother mildH
Looked with holy eyes on her childH
Cradled him close to her heart and smiledH
Kingly purple nor crown had heG
Never a trapping of royaltyG
But Mary saw that the baby's headI
With a slender nimbus was garlandedI
-
Speechless her joy as she watched him thereJ
Forgetful of pain and grief and careJ
And every thought in her soul was a prayerJ
While under the dome of the desert skyK
The Kings of the East from afar drew nighK
And the great white star that was guide to themC
Kept ward o'er the manger of BethlehemC
