Rhyme Scheme: AAABBCC DDDEEDD CCCFFGGThere's a hush and stillness calm and deep | A |
For the waves have wooed all the winds to sleep | A |
In the shadow of headlands bold and steep | A |
But some gracious spirit has taken the cup | B |
Of the crystal sky and filled it up | B |
With rosy wine and in it afar | C |
Has dissolved the pearl of the morning star | C |
- | |
The girdling hills with the night mist cold | D |
In purple raiment are hooded and stoled | D |
And smit on the brows with fire and gold | D |
And in the distance the wide white sea | E |
Is a thing of glamor and wizardry | E |
With its wild heart lulled to a passing rest | D |
And the sunrise cradled upon its breast | D |
- | |
With the first red sunlight on mast and spar | C |
A ship is sailing beyond the bar | C |
Bound to a land that is fair and far | C |
And those who wait and those who go | F |
Are brave and hopeful for well they know | F |
Fortune and favor the ship shall win | G |
That crosses the bar when the dawn comes in | G |
