An Autumn Evening Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII

Dark hills against a hollow crocus skyA
Scarfed with its crimson pennons and belowB
The dome of sunset long hushed valleys lieA
Cradling the twilight where the lone winds blowB
And wake among the harps of leafless treesC
Fantastic runes and mournful melodiesC
-
The chilly purple air is threaded throughD
With silver from the rising moon afarE
And from a gulf of clear unfathomed blueD
In the southwest glimmers a great gold starE
Above the darkening druid glens of firF
Where beckoning boughs and elfin voices stirF
-
And so I wander through the shadows stillG
And look and listen with a rapt delightH
Pausing again and yet again at willG
To drink the elusive beauty of the nightH
Until my soul is filled as some deep cupI
That with divine enchantment is brimmed upI
