| - | |
| - | |
| A Forest Night | B |
| - | |
| - | |
| Alone amidst the interminable forest | C |
| Where shall I seek for aid my weary limbs | D |
| Torn by the briars and wasted with fatigue | E |
| Refuse to bear me further | F |
| Horrid night | B |
| Black rayless midnight reigns and the thick dew | G |
| Distils its baleful drops upon my head | H |
| - | |
| - | |
| And hark the topmost branches of the trees | I |
| With dismal moan now louder and more near | J |
| Shake in the rushing wind It comes it comes | K |
| The dread tornado is there no escape | L |
| What howl is that which echoes from afar | M |
| The frightful yell comes nearer | F |
| Mighty Heaven | N |
| No friendly torch no watchfire near to keep | O |
| The savage foe at bay my cries alone | P |
| My frantic cries of agony have power | F |
| To scare the fell hyena from his prey | Q |
| - | |
| - | |
| The torrent sweeps along a swelling river | F |
| Rolls dashes at my feet I dare not climb | R |
| Yon palm for safety lest the huge black ants | S |
| Fix on and sting me into madness Ha | T |
| That crash has fell'd the loftiest of the wood | U |
| The stately cotton tree that could withstand | V |
| A thousand storms whose high projecting stems | W |
| Twisting in many folds impenetrable | X |
| Twin'd with convoluvi and parasites | Y |
| Spread their broad barrier and forbade approach | Z |
| 'Tis fallen now its purple blossoms crush'd | A2 |
| And that stupendous form which once could yield | B2 |
| A fainting army shelter is laid low | C2 |
| - | |
| - | |
| I dare not linger yet I fear to fly | D2 |
| I hear the human monster's piercing howl | E2 |
| The fierce Ingrena sporting with the storm | F2 |
| Like its presiding demon He approaches | G2 |
| And as he comes he tears the branches down | H2 |
| And arms himself for slaughter I am lost | I2 |
| His wild eyes see me by the lightning's flash | J2 |
| One moment and I perish Oh no no | C2 |
| That desp'rate leap has saved me and the coil | K2 |
| Of the huge Boa holds my shrieking foe | C2 |
| - | |
| - | |
| A thousand deaths surround me and I yield | B2 |
| No more at eve beneath the ganian's shade | L2 |
| My brave companions shall we meet to tell | M2 |
| Of toils and dangers past no more recall | N2 |
| The lovely verdure of our native vales | O2 |
| When listening to the crown bird's cheerful note | P2 |
| So like our own wild wand'ring bird of spring | Q2 |
| That fancy gives us back our homes again | R2 |
| My lov'd lost home and must I perish here | S2 |
| Oh were I now amidst the burning sands | T2 |
| So the bright sun once more might shine on me | U2 |
| Although in all his scorching fierceness yet | V2 |
| There might be hope I should escape his beams | W2 |
| Or were I on the brink of some broad river | F |
| Where the gaunt crocodile pursued my steps | X2 |
| So I had light to view mine enemy | U2 |
| There might be some hope but here no light can come | Y2 |
| - | |
| - | |
| The blast | Z2 |
| Bears shouts upon its wings new terrors still | A3 |
| Come thronging to o'erwhelm me Gracious Heaven | N |
| Those well known sounds those voices and my name | B3 |
| Echoing through all the forest I am saved | C3 |
| Here here my friends rush onward ye are come | Y2 |
| In time to see me die | D2 |
