Lines.-oft On That Latest Star Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

Oft on that latest star of purest lightA
That hovers on the verge of morning grayB
I gaze and think of eyes that gleam'd as brightA
As fondly linger'd and yet pass d awayB
-
While this true heart in every throb can tellC
'Tis changeless since the first fond hour we metD
While at thy name it wakes as to a spellC
I feel 'tis not in nature to forgetD
-
Thou canst not have forgot the tender hourE
When we our parting tears together shedF
Thou canst not have forgot the fading flowerE
That ask'd thy hand to raise its drooping headF
-
Thy voice thy looks thy sighs too truly spokeG
Oh how could they deceive thyself and meH
No death alone the bond of truth has brokeG
And cast oblivion on the world and theeH
