Are they disloyal to thy name | B |
And thus are punished for the same | B |

Pray is it thus that lives are pruned | D |
And sanctified for heaven tuned | D |

Thou art the refuge of the race | E |
That all its troubles will efface | E |
Wilt thou incline the wayward heart | F |
To keep thy law in ev'ry part | F |

'Tis needful that offences come | G |
But woe unto the man by whom | H |
They come the evil hearts to chain | I |
And drive them back to thee again | J |

For such afflictions we are told | K |
Bring people nearer to the fold | K |
If this be true then teach them now | L |
To such conditions here to bow | L |

Thy chosen people suffer here | M |
Such chastenings as children dear | N |
With patience sweet in peace and love | O |
Prepare their souls for life above | O |
