Why Is It? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GHIJ KKLL MNOO PPAA

Why is it so Dear Prince of PeaceA
That wrongs to Negroes never ceaseA
Are they disloyal to thy nameB
And thus are punished for the sameB
-
Is this thy training school on earthC
To mould a race of truest worthC
Pray is it thus that lives are prunedD
And sanctified for heaven tunedD
-
Thou art the refuge of the raceE
That all its troubles will effaceE
Wilt thou incline the wayward heartF
To keep thy law in ev'ry partF
-
'Tis needful that offences comeG
But woe unto the man by whomH
They come the evil hearts to chainI
And drive them back to thee againJ
-
For such afflictions we are toldK
Bring people nearer to the foldK
If this be true then teach them nowL
To such conditions here to bowL
-
Thy chosen people suffer hereM
Such chastenings as children dearN
With patience sweet in peace and loveO
Prepare their souls for life aboveO
-
They suffer from refining painsP
The kinds that raise to highest planesP
Can this be why Dear Prince of PeaceA
That wrongs to Negroes never ceaseA
