What The Dog Perhaps Hears Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEGHIJKLMNOPQRK K KASKKTU

If an inaudible whistleA
blown between our lipsB
can send him home to usC
then silence is perhapsD
the sound of spiders breathingE
and roots mining the earthF
it may be asparagus heavingE
headfirst into the lightG
and the long brown soundH
of cracked cups when it happensI
We would like to ask the dogJ
if there is a continuous whirK
because the child in the houseL
keeps growing if the snakeM
really stretches full lengthN
without a click and the sunO
breaks through clouds withoutP
a decibel of effortQ
whether in autumn when the treesR
dry up their wells there isn't a shudderK
too high for us to hearK
-
What is it like up thereK
above the shut off levelA
of our simple earsS
For us there was no birth cryK
the newborn bird is suddenly hereK
the egg broken the nest aliveT
and we heard nothing when the world changedU
