and what I see is an aberration	B
caused by old age an affliction	B

the edges you regret I don't see	A
to learn that the line I called the horizon	B
does not exist and sky and water	E
so long apart are the same state of being	F
Fifty four years before I could see	A
Rouen cathedral is built	G
of parallel shafts of sun	B
and now you want to restore	H
my youthful errors fixed	I
notions of top and bottom	J
the illusion of three dimensional space	A
wisteria separate	K
from the bridge it covers	A
What can I say to convince you	L
the Houses of Parliament dissolves	A
night after night to become	J
the fluid dream of the Thames	A
I will not return to a universe	A
of objects that don't know each other	E
as if islands were not the lost children	B
of one great continent The world	M
is flux and light becomes what it touches	A
becomes water lilies on water	E
above and below water	E
becomes lilac and mauve and yellow	N
and white and cerulean lamps	A
small fists passing sunlight	O
so quickly to one another	E
that it would take long streaming hair	P
inside my brush to catch it	Q
To paint the speed of light	O
Our weighted shapes these verticals	A
burn to mix with air	P
and change our bones skin clothes	A
to gases Doctor	E
if only you could see	A
how heaven pulls earth into its arms	A
and how infinitely the heart expands	A
to claim this world blue vapor without end	R
