Ways Of War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD BEBE FBFB GHGH BIBB

A terrible and splendid trustA
Heartens the host of InnisfailB
Their dream is of the swift sword thrustA
The lightning glory of the GaelB
-
Croagh Patrick is the place of prayersC
And Tara the assembling placeD
But each sweet wind of Ireland bearsC
The trump of battle on its raceD
-
From Dursey Isle to DonegalB
From Howth to Achill the glad noiseE
Rings and the airs of glory fallB
Or victory crowns their fighting joysE
-
A dream a dream an ancient dreamF
Yet ere peace come to InnisfailB
Some weapons on some field must gleamF
Some burning glory fire the GaelB
-
That field may lie beneath the sunG
Fair for the treading of an hostH
That field in realms of thought be wonG
And armed minds do their uttermostH
-
Some way to faithful InnisfailB
Shall come the majesty and aweI
Of martial truth that must prevailB
To lay on all the eternal lawB
