Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD CECECFCF CGCGCHCH IJIJADAD

LIKE some vision oldenA
Of far other timeB
When the age was goldenA
In the young world's primeB
Is thy soft pipe ringingC
O lonely shepherd boyD
What song art thou singingC
In thy youth and joyD
-
Or art thou complainingC
Of thy lowly lotE
And thine own disdainingC
Dost ask what thou hast notE
Of the future dreamingC
Weary of the pastF
For the present schemingC
All but what thou hastF
-
No thou art delightingC
In thy summer homeG
Where the flowers invitingC
Tempt the bee to roamG
Where the cowslip bendingC
With its golden bellsH
Of each glad hour's endingC
With a sweet chime tellsH
-
All wild creatures love himI
When he is aloneJ
Every bird above himI
Sings its softest toneJ
Thankful to high HeavenA
Humble in thy joyD
Much to thee is givenA
Lowly shepherd boyD
