The Orphan Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDAEA FGHGIJDJ GKLKMNDN EDODBOGO KPQPRN N

Alone alone no other faceA
Wears kindred smile kindred lineB
And yet they say my mother's eyesC
They say my father's brow is mineB
And either had rejected to seeD
The other's likeness in my faceA
But now it is a stranger's eyeE
That finds some long forgotten traceA
-
I heard them name my father's deathF
His home and tomb alike the waveG
And I was early taught to weepH
Beside my youthful mother's graveG
I wish I could recall one lookI
But only one familiar toneJ
If I had aught of memoryD
I should not feel so all aloneJ
-
My heart is gone beyond the graveG
In search of love I cannot findK
Till I could fancy soothing wordsL
Are whisper'd by the ev'ning windK
I gaze upon the watching starsM
So clear so beautiful aboveN
Till I could dream they look on meD
With something of an answering loveN
-
My mother does thy gentle eyeE
Look from those distant stars on meD
Or does the wind at ev'ning bearO
A message to thy child from theeD
Dost thou pine for me as I pineB
Again a parent's love to shareO
I often kneel beside thy graveG
And pray to be a sleeper thereO
-
The vesper bell 'tis eventideK
I will not weep but I will prayP
God of the fatherless 'tis ThouQ
Alone canst be the orphan's stayP
Earth's meanest flower heaven's mightiest starR
Are equal to their Maker's loveN
And I can say 'Thy will be done '-
With eyes that fix their hopes aboveN
