The Funeral Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH EIEJ EKEL MNON PQPQ

MARK you not yon sad processionA
'Mid the ruin'd abbey's gloomB
Hastening to the worm's possessionA
To the dark and silent tombB
-
See the velvet pall hangs overC
Poor mortality's remainsD
We should shudder to discoverC
What that coffin's space containsD
-
Death itself is lovely wearingE
But the colder shape of sleepF
Or the solemn statue bearingE
Beauty that forbids to weepF
-
But decay the pulses trembleG
When its livid signs appearH
When the once loved lips resembleG
All we loathe and all we fearH
-
Is it not a ghastly endingE
For the body's godlike formI
Thus to the damp earth descendingE
Food and triumph to the wormJ
-
Better far the red pile blazingE
With the spicy Indian woodK
Incense unto heaven raisingE
From the sandal oil's sweet floodL
-
In the bright pyre's kindling flashesM
Let my yielded soul ascendN
Fling to the wild winds my ashesO
'Till with mother earth they blendN
-
Not so let the pale urn keep themP
Touch'd with spices oil and wineQ
Let there be some one to weep themP
Wilt thou keep that urn Love mineQ
