- | |
MY home and haunt are in every leaf | B |
Whose life is a summer day bright and brief | B |
I live in the depths of the tulip's bower | C |
I wear a wreath of the cistus flower | C |
I drink the dew of the blue harebell | D |
I know the breath of the violet well | D |
The white and the azure violet | E |
But I know not which is the sweetest yet | F |
I have kiss'd the cheek of the rose | G |
I have watch'd the lily unclose | G |
My silver mine is the almond tree | A |
Who will come dwell with flower and me | A |
- | |
CHORUS OF FAIRIES | G |
- | |
Dance we our round 'tis a summer night | H |
And our steps are led by the glow worms' light | H |
- | |
SECOND FAIRY | A |
- | |
My dwelling is in the serpentine | I |
Of the rainbow's colour'd line | I |
See how its rose and amber clings | G |
To the many hues of my radiant wings | G |
Mine is the step that bids the earth | J |
Give to the iris flower its birth | J |
And mine the golden cup to hide | K |
Where the last faint hue of the rainbow died | K |
Search the depths of an Indian mine | I |
Where are the colours to match with mine | I |
- | |
CHORUS | G |
- | |
Dance we round for the gale is bringing | L |
Songs the summer rose is singing | L |
- | |
THIRD FAIRY | A |
- | |
I float on the breath of a minstrel's lute | M |
Or the wandering sounds of a distant flute | M |
Linger I over the tones that swell | D |
From the pink vein'd chords of an ocean shell | D |
I love the sky lark's morning hymn | N |
Or the nightingale heard at the twilight dim | N |
The echo the fountain's melody | A |
These oh these are the spells for me | A |
- | |
CHORUS | G |
- | |
Hail to the summer night of June | O |
See yonder has risen our ladye moon | O |
- | |
FOURTH SPIRIT | P |
- | |
My palace is in the coral cave | Q |
Set with spars by the ocean wave | Q |
Would ye have gems then seek them there | R |
There found I the pearls that bind my hair | R |
I and the wind together can roam | S |
Over the green waves and their white foam | S |
See I have got this silver shell | D |
Mark how my breath will its smallness swell | D |
For the Nautilus is my boat | T |
In which I over the waters float | T |
The moon is shining over the sea | A |
Who is there will come sail with me | A |
- | |
CHORUS OF FAIRIES | G |
- | |
Our noontide sleep is on leaf and flower | C |
Our revels are held in a moonlit hour | C |
What is there sweet what is there fair | R |
And we are not the dwellers there | R |
Dance we round for the morning light | H |
Will put us and our glow worm lamps to flight | H |
