FIRST FAIRYA
-
MY home and haunt are in every leafB
Whose life is a summer day bright and briefB
I live in the depths of the tulip's bowerC
I wear a wreath of the cistus flowerC
I drink the dew of the blue harebellD
I know the breath of the violet wellD
The white and the azure violetE
But I know not which is the sweetest yetF
I have kiss'd the cheek of the roseG
I have watch'd the lily uncloseG
My silver mine is the almond treeA
Who will come dwell with flower and meA
-
CHORUS OF FAIRIESG
-
Dance we our round 'tis a summer nightH
And our steps are led by the glow worms' lightH
-
SECOND FAIRYA
-
My dwelling is in the serpentineI
Of the rainbow's colour'd lineI
See how its rose and amber clingsG
To the many hues of my radiant wingsG
Mine is the step that bids the earthJ
Give to the iris flower its birthJ
And mine the golden cup to hideK
Where the last faint hue of the rainbow diedK
Search the depths of an Indian mineI
Where are the colours to match with mineI
-
CHORUSG
-
Dance we round for the gale is bringingL
Songs the summer rose is singingL
-
THIRD FAIRYA
-
I float on the breath of a minstrel's luteM
Or the wandering sounds of a distant fluteM
Linger I over the tones that swellD
From the pink vein'd chords of an ocean shellD
I love the sky lark's morning hymnN
Or the nightingale heard at the twilight dimN
The echo the fountain's melodyA
These oh these are the spells for meA
-
CHORUSG
-
Hail to the summer night of JuneO
See yonder has risen our ladye moonO
-
FOURTH SPIRITP
-
My palace is in the coral caveQ
Set with spars by the ocean waveQ
Would ye have gems then seek them thereR
There found I the pearls that bind my hairR
I and the wind together can roamS
Over the green waves and their white foamS
See I have got this silver shellD
Mark how my breath will its smallness swellD
For the Nautilus is my boatT
In which I over the waters floatT
The moon is shining over the seaA
Who is there will come sail with meA
-
CHORUS OF FAIRIESG
-
Our noontide sleep is on leaf and flowerC
Our revels are held in a moonlit hourC
What is there sweet what is there fairR
And we are not the dwellers thereR
Dance we round for the morning lightH
Will put us and our glow worm lamps to flightH
