Song From Judith 3 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJKH JJLMNOPPQQJJRRESJJTT UVJJWW

BALKIS was in her marble townA
And shadow over the world came downA
Whiteness of walls towers and piersB
That all day dazzled eyes to tearsC
Turned from being white golden flameD
And like the deep sea blue becameD
Balkis into her garden wentE
Her spirit was in discontentE
Like a torch in restless airF
Joylessly she wandered thereF
And saw her city's azure whiteG
Lying under the great nightG
Beautiful as the memoryH
Of a worshipping world would beH
In the mind of a god in the hourI
When he must kill his outward powerI
And coming to a pool where treesJ
Grew in double greeneriesJ
Saw herself as she went byK
The water walking beautifullyH
And saw the stars shine in the glanceJ
Of her eyes and her own fair countenanceJ
Passing pale and wonderfulL
Across the night that filled the poolM
And cruel was the grief that playedN
With the queen's spirit and she saidO
'What do I here reigning aloneP
For to be unloved is to be aloneP
There is no man in all my landQ
Dare my longing understandQ
The whole folk like a peasant bowsJ
Lest its look should meet my browsJ
And be harmed by this beauty of mineR
I burn their brains as I were signR
Of God's beautiful anger sentE
To master them with punishmentS
Of beauty that must pour distressJ
On hearts grown dark with uglinessJ
But it is I am the punisht oneT
Is there no man is there noneT
In whom my beauty will but moveU
The lust of a delighted loveV
In whom some spirit of God so thrivesJ
That we may wed our lonely livesJ
Is there no man is there none 'W
She said 'I will go to Solomon 'W
