Irregular Verses To Truth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDDEF GGHHIJKKLL

Written at Fourteen Years of AgeA
-
-
Where lovely Goddess dost thou dwellB
In what remote and silent shadeC
Within what cave or lonely cellB
With what old hermit or unpractis'd maidC
In vain I've sought thee all aroundD
But thy unfashionable soundD
In crowds was never heardE
Nor ever has thy form in town or court appear'dF
-
The sanctuary is not safe to theeG
Chas'd thence by endless mysteryG
Thy own professors chase thee thenceH
And wage eternal war with thee and senseH
Then in perplexing comments lostI
E'en when they would be thought to show the mostJ
Most beautiful when most distress'dK
Descend O Goddess to my breastK
There thou may'st reign unrivall'd and aloneL
My thoughts thy subject and my heart thy throneL
