Epistle To Lord Hervey On The King's Birthday From The Country Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BCDDDEEEFFGGGGGGHHGG IIAAGGJJKKLM

Where I enjoy in contemplative chamberA
Lutes laurels seas of milk and ships of amberA
-
Through shining crowds you now make wayB
With sideling bow and golden keyC
While wrapped in spleen and easy chairD
For all this pomp so small my careD
I scarce remember who are thereD
Yet in brocade I can supposeE
The potent Knight whose presence goesE
At least a yard before his noseE
And majesty with sweeping trainF
That does so many yards containF
Superior to her waiting nymphsG
As lobster to attendant shrimpsG
I do not ask one word of newsG
Which country damsels much amuseG
If a new batch of Lords appearsG
After a tour of half six yearsG
With foreign years to grace the nationH
The Maids of Honour's admirationH
Whose bright improvements give surpriseG
To their own lady mother's eyesG
Improvements such as colts might showI
Were mares so mad to let them goI
Their limbs perhaps a little strongerA
Their manes and tails grown somewhat longerA
I would not hear of ball room scufflesG
Nor what new whims adorn the rufflesG
This meek epistle comes to tellJ
On Monday I in town shall dwellJ
Where if you please to condescendK
In Cavendish square to see your friendK
I shall disclose to you aloneL
Such thoughts as ne'er were thought uponM
