The Knight's Pledge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDBEEBFFBEEBGG BHHB

The tedious night at length hath pass'dA
To horse to horse we'll ride as fastA
As ever bird did flyB
Ha but the morning air is chillC
Frau Wirthin one last goblet fillC
We'll drain it ere we dieB
Thou youthful grass why look'st so greenD
Soon dyed in blood of mine I weenD
With damask rose thou'lt vieB
The goblet here with sword in handE
I pledge thee first my FatherlandE
Oh blessed for thee to dieB
Again our mailed hands raise the cupF
Freedom to thee we drink it upF
Low may that coward lieB
Who fails to pledge with heart and handE
The freedom of our glorious LandE
Her Freedom ere we dieB
Our wives but ah the glass is clearG
The cannon thunders grasp the spearG
We'll pledge them in a sighB
Now on the Foe like thunder crashH
We'll scathe them as a lightning flashH
And conquer though we dieB
