Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEEE FFGG DDHH DDII JKLL MMDD

In Upsal's stately Minster before the altar standsA
The Swedish King brave Erick with high uplifted handsA
His royal robes are round him the crown upon his headB
And thus before his people right sovranly he saidB
-
God whoso trusteth in Thee will never rue his trustC
If God the Lord be with us our foes shall flee like dustC
He spake from priests and people rose up the answering cryD
If God the Lord be with us all danger we defyD
-
Scarce through the aisles is dying their mingled voices' dinE
A pallid slave disordered comes rushing wildly inE
Now God us aid Skalater the Dane has come agenE
Fast pouring down the mountains with seven hundred menE
-
King Erick heard him calmly then strong in faith repliedF
What man can fight against us with God upon our sideF
A second slave comes rushing all breathless as the firstG
The gate is down Skalater each bar and bolt hath burstG
-
King Erick's brow grew paler but still he looked on highD
If God the Lord be with us no danger need we flyD
In comes another trembling but ere he uttered soundH
The Danish axes glisten they cleave him to the groundH
-
Then rose a fearful tumult then rose a wildered cryD
Skalater comes in fury defenceless we must dieD
Skalater comes in fury with all his pagan hordesI
And Priest and King and Altar must fall beneath their swordsI
-
King Erick's glance grew prouder he grasp'd the golden roodJ
He held it high to Heaven as on Skalater strodeK
Lo from each wound the seven pours forth a thousand raysL
And down to earth Skalater sinks dazzled by the blazeL
-
They're prostrate on their foreheads the seven hundred DanesM
Praying the God to spare them who guards the Christian fanesM
But Erick and his people lift up the joyful cryD
Our God the Lord has conquered all praise to Him on highD
