A Servian Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB AACC DDEE AAFG AAHH DDEE DDII

Wherefore neighest thou so sadlyA
Stampest with the hoof so madlyA
Speak my steed why at the tentB
With thy stately neck down bentB
-
Have not my own hands caress'd theeA
Proudly in gay trappings dress'd theeA
Yet thou com'st not as of oldC
Champing at thy curb of goldC
-
Hast thou not in bright hues glowingD
Silken shabrack downward flowingD
Silver hoof and broidered reinE
Gemm'd with trophies from the slainE
-
And the horse he answered sadlyA
Stamp I with the hoof so madlyA
Tramp of steed I hear afarF
Trumpet clang and din of warG
-
But soon a stranger will bestride meA
Other hand than thine will guide meA
Never more by thee caress'dH
Or proudly in gay trappings dress'dH
-
See the foe with fury glowingD
Rends my glittering shabrack flowingD
Curb of gold and broidered reinE
Fiercely does he cleave in twainE
-
And my stately neck is droopingD
'Neath a fearful burthen stoopingD
There a dead man lies supineI
Cold as ice the Form is thineI
