Your Children Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEFGCHIJKLMN

Your children are not your childrenA
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itselfB
They come through you but not from youC
And though they are with you they belong not to youC
You may give them your love but not your thoughtsD
For they have their own thoughtsD
You may house their bodies but not their soulsE
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrowF
Which you cannot visit not even in your dreamsG
You may strive to be like them but seek not to make them like youC
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterdayH
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forthI
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infiniteJ
And He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and farK
Let your bending in the archer's hands be for happinessL
For even as He loves the arrow that fliesM
So He loves the bow that is stableN
