Let These Be Your Desires Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABB CDEFGHIGJKHL

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itselfA
But if your love and must needs have desiresB
Let these be your desiresB
-
To melt and be like a running brookC
That sings its melody to the nightD
To know the pain of too much tendernessE
To be wounded by your own understanding of loveF
And to bleed willingly and joyfullyG
To wake at dawn with a winged heartH
And give thanks for another day of lovingI
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasyG
To return home at eventide with gratitudeJ
And then to sleep with a prayerK
For the beloved in your heartH
And a song of praise upon your lipsL
