WE WERE SOLDIERSA
The dead sun swooned and sag into cloudsB
drizzle on hunted bog the large footprintC
marked endless journey of lion heart soldierD
dragged and limped with a shriek he fallE
with a sickening thud on stump groaned theF
camouflage face dull and blackened bleakG
respire in the thick dingy odour hairyH
nostrils stinky with blood his death lookI
frenzy doomed the reclined Brocken spineJ
even the jackboat one legged and haversackI
too heavy the pus gurgled out of the eyes heH
winced and smile in his death This is the topK
of the mainly soldier whose bones rest on thisL
stump still and the footprint still visible withM
blisters of wind of gloryH
