Transit Of The Gods Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGEHFIFEFFJ

Strange that the self s continuum should outlastA
The Virgin Aphrodite and the Mourning MotherB
All loves and griefs successive deitiesC
That hold their kingdom in the human breastD
Abandoned by the gods woman with an ageing bodyE
That half remembers the AnnunciationF
The passion and the travail and the griefG
That wore the mask of my humanityE
I marvel at the soul s indifferenceH
For in her theatre the play is doneF
The tears are shed the actors the immortalsI
In their ceaseless manifestation elsewhere goneF
And I who have been Virgin and AphroditeE
The mourning Isis and the queen of cornF
Wait for the last mummer dread PersephoneF
To dance my dust at last into the tombJ
