In my first sleepA
I came to the riverB
And looked downC
Through the clear waterB
Only in dreamD
Water so pureE
Laced and undulantF
Lines of flowG
On its rocky bedF
Water of lifeH
Streaming for everB
-
A house was thereI
Beside the riverB
And I arrivedF
An expected guestF
About to exploreJ
Old gardens and librariesK
But the car was waitingL
To drive me awayM
-
One last lookN
Into that bright streamD
Trout there wereB
And clear on the bottomO
Monster formP
Of the great crayfishQ
That crawls to the moonR
On its rocky bedF
Living waterB
In whorls and ripplesS
Flowing unbendedF
-
There was the carT
To drive me awayM
We crossed the riverB
Of living waterB
I might not stayM
But must returnU
By the road too shortF
To the waiting dayM
-
In my second dreamD
Pure I was and freeV
By the rapid streamD
My crystal house the skyW
The pure crystalline skyW
-
Into the stream I flungX
A bottle of clear glassY
That twirled and tossed and spunZ
In the water's raceA2
Flashing the morning sunZ
-
Down that swift riverB
I saw it borne awayM
My empty crystal formP
Exultant saw it caughtF
Into the current's spinB2
The flashing water's runZ
