To My Dear Sister, Mrs. C. P. On Her Nuptial Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDD DDEEFF GGDDFF HIDDJK

We will not like those men our offerings payA
Who crown the cup then think they crown the dayA
We make no garlands nor an altar buildB
Which help not Joy but Ostentation yieldC
Where mirth is justly grounded these wild toyesD
Are but a troublesome and empty noiseD
-
-
But these shall be my great SolemnitiesD
Orinda's wishes for Cassandra's blissD
May her Content be as unmix'd and pureE
As my Affection and like that endureE
And that strong Happiness may she still findF
Not owing to her Fortune but her MindF
-
-
May her Content and Duty be the sameG
And may she know no Grief but in the nameG
May his and her Pleasure and Love be soD
Involv'd and growing that we may not knowD
Who most Affection or most Peace engrostF
Whose Love is strongest or whose Bliss is mostF
-
-
May nothing accidental e're appearH
But what shall with new bonds their Souls endearI
And may they count the hours as they passD
By their own Joys and not by Sun or GlassD
While every day like this may Sacred proveJ
To Friendship Gratitude and Strictest LoveK
