Orinda Upon Little Hector Philips Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEB GHGI JKLK

Twice forty months of Wedlock did I stayA
Then had my vows crown'd with a Lovely boyB
And yet in forty days he dropt awayA
O swift Visissitude of humane joyB
-
I did but see him and he dis appear'dC
I did but pluck the Rose bud and it fellD
A sorrow unforeseen and scarcely fear'dC
For ill can mortals their afflictions spellD
-
And now sweet Babe what can my trembling heartE
Suggest to right my doleful fate or theeF
Tears are my Muse and sorrow all my ArtE
So piercing groans must be thy ElogyB
-
Thus whilst no eye is witness of my moneG
I grieve thy loss Ah boy too dear to liveH
And let the unconcerned World aloneG
Who neither will nor can refreshment giveI
-
An Off'ring too for thy sad Tomb I haveJ
Too just a tribute to thy early HerseK
Receive these gasping numbers to thy graveL
The last of thy unhappy Mothers VerseK
