Rhyme Scheme: ABBC DEED FGGH GIIG JIIJ AIIC KFFK LHHL MNNM OPPO QIIQ CBBCIn the sleep haunted gloom | A |
Born of the slumbrous twilight in these shades | B |
These vast and venerable collonades | B |
I welcome thee dear June | C |
- | |
And while with head reclined | D |
And limbs aweary with my woodland walk | E |
I listen to the low melodious talk | E |
Of leaves and singing wind | D |
- | |
The merry roundelay | F |
Of the swart ploughman sowing summer grain | G |
And tinkling sheep bell on the distant plain | G |
And pastures far away | H |
- | |
Come with a soft refrain | G |
Like a faint echo from the outer world | I |
While Peace sits by me with her white wings furled | I |
Within my green domain | G |
- | |
This is my palace where | J |
Great trunks are amber pillars to support | I |
The blue roof of the vast and silent court | I |
In clustered columns fair | J |
- | |
And underneath the bloom | A |
Of water lilies through the fragrant night | I |
Of these dim arches spreads a perfumed light | I |
Even at highest noon | C |
- | |
Down dropping all day long | K |
With a most musical cadence in the hall | F |
A wandering stream lets its slow waters fall | F |
In twinkling rhythmic song | K |
- | |
Hither the vagrant bee | L |
From the broad fields and sunshine all astray | H |
Loiters the idle hours of noon away | H |
In golden dreams like me | L |
- | |
And from my window frame | M |
This oriel window opening on the sky | N |
I see the white barques of the clouds drift by | N |
With prows of rosy flame | M |
- | |
Fantastical and strange | O |
Their purple sails go floating o'er the deep | P |
Like shadows through the summer land of sleep | P |
In never ending change | O |
- | |
The wild shy things which roam | Q |
The woods and live in bough and tree and grot | I |
Flutter and chirp unscared they fear me not | I |
For I too am at home | Q |
- | |
And feel my heart in tune | C |
With the great heart of Nature and the voice | B |
Of all the glad bright creatures that rejoice | B |
In the green woods of June | C |
