Cradled in ice and swathed in snowsA
And shining like a Christmas roseA
Wreathed round with white chrysanthemumsB
Heaven in his innocent brave blue eyesC
Straight from the primal paradiseD
Behold the infant New Year comesB
-
His looks a serious sweetness wearE
As if upon that unseen wayF
Those baby hands that lightly bearE
Garlands and festive tokens gayF
For but a glance a touch sufficedG
Had met and touched the infant ChristG
-
And lingering on the wing had heardH
Sweeter than song of any birdH
Of cherub or of seraphimI
The notes of that divinest hymnJ
Glory to God in highest strainK
And peace on earth good will to menL
-
Oh diamond days so royally setM
In winter's stern and rugged breastN
Like jewels in an amuletO
Your light has cheered and soothed and blestN
The want and toil the sighs and tearsP
And sorrows of a thousand yearsQ
-
The bells ring in the merry mornR
The poor forget their povertyS
The saddest face grows bright with gleeS
And smiles for joy that he is bornR
The fair round world shines out with cheerT
To welcome in the glad New YearT
-
Oh ye whose homes are warm and brightU
With plenty smiling at the boardV
Remember those whose roofs to nightU
Nor warmth nor light nor food affordV
Still make those wants and woes your careE
And let the poor your bounty shareE
-
For yet our hills and lakes alongW
Echoes the herald angels' songW
Peace and good will oh look abroadX
In every nation tribe and clanY
Behold the brotherhood of manY
Behold the Fatherhood of GodZ
-
Peace to our mountains and our hillsA2
Peace to our rivers and our rillsA2
Our young Dominion takes her placeA2
Among the nations west and eastB2
God send her length of happy daysA2
And years of plenty and of peaceA2
