Easter Bells Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDBE FGHI GGJJ KLIM NNII OOPP

Oh bells of Easter morn oh solemn sounding bellsA
Which fill the hollow cellsA
Of the blue April air with a most sweet refrainB
Ye fill my heart with painB
-
For when as from a thousand holy altar firesC
A thousand resonant spiresD
Sent up the offering the glad thanksgiving strainB
The Lord is risen againE
-
He went from us who shall return no more no moreF
I say the sad words o'erG
And they are mixed and blent with your triumphant psalmH
Like bitterness and balmI
-
We stood with him beside the black and silent riverG
Cold cold and soundless everG
But there our feet were stayed unloosed our clasping fondJ
And he has passed beyondJ
-
And still that solemn hymn like smoke of sacrificeK
Clomb the blue April skiesL
And on our anguish placed its sacramental chrismI
Behold the Lord is risenM
-
Oh bells of Easter morn your mighty voices reachN
A deeper depth than speechN
We heard Because He liveth they shall live with HimI
This was our Easter hymnI
-
And while the slow vibrations swell and sink and ceaseO
They bring divinest peaceO
For we commit our best beloved to the dustP
In sure and certain trustP
