A Baby's Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DADA EFEF GHIH JKLK MAMA

A little white soul went up to GodA
Out of the mire of the city streetB
It grew like a flower in the highway broadC
Close to the trample of heedless feetB
-
It fell like a snow flake over nightD
Into the ways by vile ones trodA
It sparkled dissolved in the morning lightD
And the little white soul went up to GodA
-
Dainty flower soft waxen thingE
Its clear eyes opened on this bad earthF
And the little shuddering soul took wingE
By the gate of death from the gate of birthF
-
Not for those innocent lips and eyesG
The words and the ways of sin and strifeH
The pure flower opened in paradiseI
Fast by the banks of the river of lifeH
-
Yea little victors who never foughtJ
And crowned though ye never ran the raceK
His blood your innocent lives hath boughtL
And ye stand before Him and see His faceK
-
For this oh Father we give Thee thanksM
By the little graves and the tear wet sodA
They stand before Thee in shining ranksM
And the little white souls are safe with GodA
