The Visitor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CDE FGH IJ KLM BNO PG

Down the hill in the field of sweet alfalfa they'reA
freezing each other the childrenB
-
playing tag and I'm up at the house I'mC
in the picture window thinD
and distant like the glimpseE
-
of a surfacing fish What dark watersF
the house is behind me settlingG
into evening DuskH
-
and there are of course fireflies Tell meI
what was your name When you visited onceJ
-
by the backroad where the stones glowed paleK
in the moonlight I was too young I still thoughtL
I belonged to the world But nowM
-
quartered in this house watching the neighbors' childrenB
turn to dusk I feelN
I'm ready Come backO
-
and bring your finest wine the oldest bottleP
Bring that strange dusty book you were readingG
