How can you stand it looking at thingsA
For example the geraniumB
-
out on the patio the single pinkC
blossom in the sun Or stand the sunlightD
moving through itE
-
illuminating holding the flower open like a highF
clear note an ecstaticG
wideningH
-
which arrives arrives WhatI
do you do with it While the shrubs and the lowestJ
overhanging leavesK
-
lift slightly in the wind the blossomB
-
doesn't move It's the objectL
of affection and this is howM
it hurts youN
-
by holding the note openO
-
Past the front of the apartment traffic goes byF
one truck then anotherP
-
comes on disappears And I haveQ
-
the blossom in my visionO
sunlight like visionO
making clear the tiniestJ
-
hidden veins I don't know whyF
I should be here aliveR
-
and having to see this this bright thingH
living in timeS
-
or have to see it later at the endT
of the afternoon when the sun'sU
-
lower its light diagonal across the potV
its light then pulling awayW
across the mossed brickG
-
like a wave only slowerP
slower The blossom is still pinkC
but no longerP
-
brilliant I'll go backX
into the kitchen But you are you stronger than I Can youN
stay in love with it Make promisesY
-
marry it Are you so sureZ
of your position in the worldA2
