Rhyme Scheme: AB CDE F GH C I DJK LMN CON JPQ R

Once in a field in a wide rising stretch of paintbrushA
amp purple vetch we stuck downB
-
a tent like punctuation and drank through the eveningC
our bottle of bad wine When you looked upD
the weather was holding a few breezesE
-
a full moon silvering the flowersF
-
to white In the distance I heard the acheG
amp slide of snow the beginning of crickets It was twilightH
-
the landscape was liftingC
-
bullI
-
A mountain The clouds further upD
came down A Book of Hours A tent in which we twistedJ
pressed each against the other drunkK
-
and when I stepped out into the coolL
moonlight there was drifting through the wateryM
end of the meadow a deerN
-
pale beneath pines beneath those soaringC
darknessess Then there was only darkness theO
idea of a deerN
-
Remember I never wantedJ
to be alive to haveP
an outline Better I knew to slipQ
-
unheld an opening into mistR
