The night dark cloaked like a procuress broughtA
him to me willing light as a shadowB
speaking words of loveC
in some tender language I do not knowB
With the crows came the morning and my limbsD
warm of love were once again so lonelyE
At my doorstep I saw a pock marked faceF
a friendly smile andG
a rolleiflex We will go for a driveH
he said Or go see the lakes I haveI
washed my face with soap and water brushedJ
my hair a dozenK
times draped myself in six yards of printedL
voile Ah does it still show my night of loveC
You look pale he said Not pale not reallyE
pale It's the lipstick'sF
anemia Out in the street we heardM
The sirens go and I paused in talk toN
weave their wail with the sound of his mirthlessF
laughter He saidO
they are testing the sirens today I amP
happy He really was lavish with wordsF
I am happy just being with youN
But you you love anotherQ
I know he said perhaps a handsome manR
a young and handsome man Not youngS
not handsome I thought just a filthy snobT
It's a one sided loveC
I said What can I do for yoou I smiledU
A smile is such a detached thing I wearV
it like a flower Near the lake a pregnantW
girl bared her duskyS
breasts and washed them sullenly On the oldX
cannon stand crows bickered over a pieceF
of lizard meat and the white sun was thereV
and everywhereV
I want your photo lying downY
nineteen thirty four guns he saidO
against those rusty nineteen thirty four gunsF
will you Sure Just arrange my limbs and tellZ
Me when to smile IA2
shut my eyes but inside eye lids there wasF
no more night no more love or peace onlyE
the white white sun burning burning burningS
Ah why does love come to me like painB2
again and again and againC2
