Our Orders Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM

WEAVE no more silks ye Lyons loomsA
To deck our girls for gay delightsB
The crimson flower of battle bloomsA
And solemn marches fill the nightC
-
Weave but the flag whose bars to dayD
Drooped heavy o er our early deadE
And homely garments coarse and grayD
For orphans that must earn their breadE
-
Keep back your tunes ye viols sweetF
That poured delight from other landsG
Rouse there the dancer s restless feetF
The trumpet leads our warrior bandsG
-
And ye that wage the war of wordsH
With mystic fame and subtle powerI
Go chatter to the idle birdsH
Or teach the lesson of the hourI
-
Ye Sibyl Arts in one stern knotJ
Be all your offices combinedK
Stand close while Courage draws the lotJ
The destiny of human kindK
-
And if that destiny could failL
The sun should darken in the skyM
The eternal bloom of Nature paleL
And God and Truth and Freedom dieM
