How well do I remember	A
Of a burial in the snow	B
On a winter's evening	C
Some fifteen years ago	B
The ground was covered over	A
With the beautiful crystal snow	B
And it glistened in the moonlight	D
Like diamonds all aglow	B
	-
It was a pleasant evening	C
That merry Christmas eve	E
And I never can forget how	F
The frost hung on the tree	G
The moon was shining clearly	G
And the sleigh bells rang so sweet	H
Ah it was splendid sleighing	C
The snow was two feet deep	I
	-
My grandparents were living	C
Some two miles then away	J
My parents went to see them	K
To spend the holiday	J
I went with my kind parents	L
For the evening was sublime	M
To see dear aunts and uncles	N
And have a merry time	M
	-
I saw the beaming faces	O
Of my grandparents dear	P
As they met us on the door step	Q
With welcome words of cheer	P
In fancy I can see them	K
As in the days of yore	R
When they welcome home their children	S
Through the old familiar door	R

The banquet board that evening	C
Was filled with cake and wine	T
Delicious fruits and oysters	U
That came from foreign clime	K
It was a merry party	G
That met once more to roam	K
My grandparents were happy	G
Their children were all home	K

Grandpapa said dear children	S
Lay the tea things aside	V
And some of you get ready	G
To take a pleasant ride	V
The moon is shining clearly	G
The evening is sublime	K
O'er the crystal snow we'll glide	V
And have a jolly time	K

Hats and cloaks were soon put on	W
By those who wish to go	C
They were wrapped up snug and warm	K
For a sleigh ride o'er the snow	C
Their hearts were light and gleeful	X
They rode away with ease	Y
I never can forget them	K
Or that merry Christmas eve	E

On that beautiful evening	C
They rode five miles away	J
O'er hills and dales and frozen snow	C
With prospects bright and gay	J
They came to their journey's end	Z
And soon were homeward bound	A2
A more joyous happy band	B2
Was nowhere to be found	A2

The merry sleigh bells ringing	C
Out on the midnight air	C2
And merry voices singing	C
All right side up with care	C2
The horses were high spirited	D2
They ran away and lo	C
Broke loose from the sleigh and left	E2
It buried in the snow	C

The people of that party	G
Lay scattered all around	A2
Some were frightened others laughed	F2
To think it happened so	C
That the end of their sleigh ride	V
Was a burial in the snow	C

Yet they were gay and happy	G
The bright moon o'er them shone	G2
And laughing o'er their sleigh ride	V
They all went trudging home	K
Some of those friends are dead and gone	H2
That met in that old home	K
And never will we meet again	I2
Around that dear hearth stone	G2
