Many a noble volunteerC
Kent county did send outD
Among them was Chyler DavisE

He enlisted in the serviceE
His native land to shieldG
This brave and noble volunteerC
He left his home and friendsH
For he dearly loved his countryI
He went from MichiganA
Not thinking when he went down southB
The Federal ranks to fillJ
That he would lay in prisonsK
Belle Isle to AndersonvilleJ

In prison cells lamentingL
For seventeen months he layM
Thinking of the dear onesK
At home so far awayM
He lay in prison sufferingL
No friend to hear him moanN
A living walking skeletonA
He was when he came homeO

He was discharged in KansasE
The place called Fort LeavenworthP
And he did return to OakfieldG
The place he first went forthQ
How joyful were his parentsR
When they saw their then lost oneA
The God of heaven was mercifulS
To let return their sonA
