My childhood days were happy | D |
And it fills my heart with woe | E |
To muse o'er the days that have passed by | F |
And the scenes of long ago | E |
In the days of my early childhood | G |
Kent county was quite wild | H |
Especially the towns I lived in | I |
When I was a little child | H |
I will not speak of my birthplace | J |
For if you will only look | K |

I am not ashamed of my birthright | M |
Though it was of poor estate | N |
Many a poor person in our land | O |
Has risen to be great | N |
My parents were poor I know kind friends | P |
But that is no disgrace | J |
They were honorable and respected | Q |
Throughout my native place | J |

My mother was an invalid | R |
And was for many a year | S |
And I being the eldest daughter | T |
Her life I had to cheer | S |
I had two little sisters | U |
And a brother which made three | D |
And dear mother being sickly | D |
Their care it fell on me | D |

My parents moved to Algoma | V |
Near twenty three years ago | E |
And bought one hundred acres of land | O |
That's a good sized farm you know | E |
It was then a wilderness | W |
