New Year Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE AFAF CGCH IJIJ ABAF

Farewell to the old year foreverA
And all its sorrows and careB
We'll bury in our hearts and endeavorA
New troubles and trials to bearB
-
The old year has gone with its sadnessC
In oblivion to dwell evermoreD
The new year will come with its gladnessC
To welcome the rich and the poorE
-
Ah welcome the new year with pleasureA
And welcome home friends that is dearF
Be happy and joyful togetherA
And greet each happy new yearF
-
Some people will meet in sadnessC
For death has entered their homeG
And robbed them of joy and gladnessC
And left them forsaken and loneH
-
Young people not meet it in sorrowI
For their hearts are blithesome and gayJ
Trouble will come with to morrowI
So let them be happy to dayJ
-
Farewell to the old year foreverA
Lay its sorrows aside with a tearB
Think of the future and endeavorA
To greet each happy new yearF
